Title
Leaving Belgium with no loose ends
Description
If your or your transferee’s assignment in Belgium is over, everyone is probably already thinking about the new destination. However, before transferees can think about settling into a new country, they’ll need to set their Belgian affairs in order.
Leaving Belgium is more complicated than packing bags and jumping on the next flight out.
Here is what needs to be checked off the list before your transferee leaves Belgium:

Give timely notice for the end of the property rental contract (the exact period depends on the contact terms).

Cancel all utilities and contracts: internet, mobile phone, gas, electricity, TV, and others.

Deregister from local Town Hall (in Belgium, departing residents are required to collect a Model 8 Certificate of Discharge from the Belgian Population Register)

Hand over the house or apartment following a strict protocol. Be aware that if this protocol is not followed, there might be penalties to pay or your transferee might not receive their entire rental deposit back.

Handle medical insurance and/or pension contributions.
Our Departure Services consultants can help transferees make the right choice for each of these options, depending on your personal circumstances.
Leaving Belgium on a tight schedule? There is no need to to overpay your way out of the country or leave issues unsolved.
