Title
Leaving The Netherlands with no loose ends
Description
If you or your transferee’s assignment in The Netherlands is over, everyone is probably already thinking about the new destination. However, before transferees can think about settling into a new country, they’ll need to set their Dutch affairs in order.
Leaving The Netherlands is more complicated than packing bags and jumping on the next flight out.
Here is what needs to be checked off the list before your transferee leaves The Netherlands:

Give timely notice for the end of the property rental contract (the exact period depends on the contact terms).

Cancel all utilities and contracts: internet, mobile phone, gas, electricity, TV, and others.

Deregister with the authorities: in The Netherlands, individuals are registered in the Personal Records Database (Basisregistratie Personen, BRP) and need to deregister themselves from this when leaving the country.

Hand over the apartment following a strict protocol. Be aware that if this protocol is not followed, there might be penalties to pay or your transferee might not receive their entire rental deposit back.

Handle medical insurance and/or pension contributions.
Our Departure Services consultants here in The Netherlands can help you make the right choice for each of these options, depending on your personal circumstances.
Leaving The Netherlands on a tight schedule? You don’t need to overpay your way out of the country or leave issues unsolved.
